Crispy Turkey & Avocado Tostadas with Pickled Onion, Chayote & Crema

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • salt
  • 1 small red onion
  • ½ cup vinegar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 large chayote
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • salt
  • 8 pieces tostada shells
  • 2 medium avocado
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup cilantro

How to Make It

  1. 1In a bowl, combine vinegar, water, sugar, and salt.
  2. 2Add sliced red onion and let pickle for at least 15 minutes.
  3. 3Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. 4Add ground turkey and cook until browned.
  5. 5Add garlic, cumin, chili powder, and salt.
  6. 6Cook for 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
  7. 7In a bowl, toss chayote with lime juice and salt to create a light slaw.
  8. 8Spread a layer of turkey onto each tostada shell.
  9. 9Top with sliced avocado and chayote slaw.
  10. 10Add pickled onions and drizzle with sour cream.
  11. 11Garnish with cilantro and serve immediately.
