Texas Steakhouse Toast with Smashed Red Potatoes & Onion Gravy

  • 4 pieces sirloin or ribeye steak
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • 4 slices thick-cut bread
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 ½ lb red potatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • salt
  • 2 medium red onion
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • salt
  • black pepper

How to Make It

  1. 1Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. 2Boil red potatoes until fork-tender, about 15 minutes.
  3. 3Drain, then place on a baking sheet and gently smash.
  4. 4Drizzle potatoes with olive oil and salt.
  5. 5Roast for 20–25 minutes until crispy.
  6. 6Season steaks with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  7. 7Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear steaks for 3–5 minutes per side until desired doneness.
  8. 8Let rest.
  9. 9In another pan, melt butter and cook sliced onions over medium heat until caramelized.
  10. 10Stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes, then gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
  11. 11Simmer until thickened.
  12. 12Toast bread with butter until golden.
  13. 13Serve steak over toast, topped with red onion gravy, alongside smashed potatoes.
